Packing For Camp

As you excitedly prepare for camp and begin counting down the days, the quintessential question will likely arise – 'What should I pack?' Packing for camp often adds to the excitement and anticipation of the summer. However, we know it can also be a bit overwhelming. With that in mind, we have compiled a suggested packing list to help ensure your child has everything he or she needs.

But don’t sweat it! If you happen to forget anything throughout the packing process, we will do our very best to provide whatever item(s) may be missing. We are absolutely committed to treating your child like family… which sometimes means helping out with a forgotten toothbrush or left-behind pillow!

PACKING TIPS

  • The most common mistake we see is over-packing. Campers tend to wear shorts and T-shirts most of the time, though they will need sweatshirts and/or layers as evenings on the mountain are quite cool.

  • Be sure to pack plenty of socks and underwear as they tend to disappear.

  • PLEASE PACK OLD CLOTHES! Your child(ren) will be running around a mountain day after day, and their clothes WILL get dirty.

  • Make sure that all clothing, shoes, and personal items are clearly marked with a laundry pen or name tags. If space allows, use your camper's first and last name or first initial and last name (Maggie Mayo or M. Mayo).

  • Campers love to decorate their bunks, so feel free to send in items to make your camper's bunk their home away from home!

  • Make sure to send WARM items for the Caverns sleepover - warm socks, warm PJ’s, or a hoodie.

  • Storage is minimal in our yurts; you may want to consider an over-the-door organizer for your camper.

Check-In & Check-Out + Care Packages

Check-In is between 2:00p - 4:00p CT on Sunday afternoon. Check-in procedures will not begin before the scheduled time of 2p. Please plan on the check-in process to take approximately 30 minutes. All campers will check in at The Caverns, 555 Charlie Roberts Road, Pelham TN, 37366.

Check-Out is between 10a-Noon CT on Saturday morning. All campers will check-out at the same location as Check-In

In order to pick-up your child, you must either be the parent/guardian or listed as allowed to pick-up. Photo identification and sign-out signature is also required.

Any early check-ins or late check-outs without prior approval will be subject to an additional $100 late fee.

Care Packages. Parents are welcome to bring letters or care packages that contain prepackaged and completely sealed treats/snacks (without nuts) during check in. We will have boxes labeled with the day of week at check in and you can place your care package or letters according to the day you wish your child to receive it. We cannot stress enough the importance of care packages. Your child(ren) will be having a blast but homesickness does happen and a little treat from home helps tremendously! While we do allow sealed food and candy here are a few other ideas. Also, check out Dollar General/Dollar Tree and the like for great inexpensive treats.

  • Pics of loved ones (don’t forget the pet!)

  • Letter from the pet

  • MadLibs

  • Glow anything!

  • Fuzzy Socks

  • Flavored Chapstick

  • A token to give a friend

  • Activity Kits

  • Coloring books

  • Tattoos

  • Stickers

  • Bunk Decorating Items
